Baldwin finishes another perfect season

NORWICH – Leigh Baldwin and Associates rode its 6-foot-10 center Eric Poiesz to a first-half lead, and pulled away from Burrell’s/Parker’s in the Norwich Men’s Corporate Basketball League title game, 60-46 Thursday evening.

It was a rematch of last year’s final, a blowout win for the Baldwin. The victory also capped a second straight unbeaten season as the champs extended their winning streak to 31 games.

Poiesz scored his team’s first 12 points to keep it even, and when Tim Mirabito bucketed a three to take the scoring load off Poiesz – and break a 12-12 tie – the lead was Baldwin’s to stay. “The last two times, they have played us tough,” Poiesz said. “I think they were more serious. The two previous times we played them, it was all over by halftime.”

Poiesz finished with 28 points – 18 in the first half – giving his club a 31-23 lead.

Burrell’s/ Parker’s countered Poiesz’s size advantage with slashing drives through the Baldwin zone. Matt Foote scored eight points in the opening half and Nick Brunick six, while Matt Burrell contributed five including a three-pointer that tied the game for the last time at 15-15.
