Artistic Discovery exhibit opens
NORWICH – The annual “Artistic Discovery” student art show sponsored by Congressman Michael Arcuri offers a mix of everything from printmaking to photography, painting and ceramics.
The exhibit includes the talents of 84 high school students from around the county. An opening reception is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Chenango County Council of the Arts gallery, 27 W. Main St., and is open to the public.
Schools participating in this year’s Artistic Discovery are Sherburne-Earlville, Norwich, Afton, Oxford and Unadilla Valley. The exhibit was coordinated by Norwich High School art teacher Wayne Franklin and was juried by Carl Houghton and Lynne Berry.
“It is an excellent representation of the students’ work form throughout the county,” said Franklin.
Five winners in a variety of mediums will be announced at 6 p.m. in the gallery. Winners will go on to compete with others from across New York in Utica, and one winner’s work will be chosen to hang in the halls of Congress for a year.
Local sponsors for Artistic Discovery are Peter and Virginia Chaplin, the George and Elisabeth Mead Foundation and Golden Artist Colors.
