Camp Pharsalia to stay open
NORWICH – Camp Pharsalia will stay open for at least another year, Senator Tom Libous (R-Binghamton) confirmed Monday morning.
State legislators have agreed in a joint budget proposal to set aside funds for Pharsalia, Camp Gabriels, the Hudson Correctional Facility and Mt. McGregor minimum security facility. All four prisons were scheduled to close in January 2009.
Libous said the budget deal that saved Pharsalia for 2008-2009 was struck over the weekend. It is still subject to approval by Governor David Paterson. Libous says it’s unlikely, however, that Paterson would veto the agreement.
