City hopes to auction police car
NORWICH – A City of Norwich police car, which currently has over 96,000 miles on it, may soon be auctioned off to provide revenue for additional police equipment.
At April’s meeting of the City of Norwich Finance / Personnel Committee, Police and Fire Chief Joseph Angelino told the committee he would like the patrol car, which currently has 96,352 miles, to be declared surplus property so the department could sell the vehicle on the Internet auction site E-Bay.
In January, the city approved the purchase of a new patrol car. Often, Angelino explained, the department would retire the vehicle by transferring it to another city department, but he said in this instance, the city has no other uses for it.
“Currently, [the car] is running for about three days before it has to go to the highway garage for repairs,” Angelino told the committee.
