MORRIS – Chris Olin worked out of an eighth-inning jam thanks to a Morris baserunning miscue to earn the win in the Vikings’ opening contest of the season.
The Vikings pushed the go-ahead run across in the top half of the eight when Eric Wentworth led off with a single, and moved to third afte a one-out outfield error. He scored the winner on Brian Graham’s single. “We played well for the first time out, and Olin had a great outing,” said Vikings coach Dave Loomis.
Morris threatened after a leadoff walk in the eighth to Travis Cornier. A stolen base and groundout moved Cornier to third, but he was thrown out in a rundown after a missed bunt attempt. “I’m not sure exactly what happened on that play,” Loomis said.
Olin allowed just four hits and struck out 14, while walking four. Wentworth led with two hits for OV, who play at Stockbridge Valley today.

OXFORD – Oxford pounced on Greene’s early mistakes piling up six runs in the first inning to win its second straight game this season.
P.J. Hubman led off with a triple, and scored on Nick Gates’ sacrifice fly. Nate Sortino scored a run with a single, while the rest of the runs came in on four of the Trojans’ five errors.
Hubman was nicked early, but worked five innings for his second victory. Curtis Whitehill added two innings of scoreless relief. “P.J. hit his ball hard and we had a couple other hits in the first inning, but Greene didn’t make a couple plays I think they will make later in the season,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “P.J. threw a lot of pitches, hung in there, and got out of a couple jams. He settled down and pitched well in the third, fourth, and fifth innings.”
Nick Gates had two hits and one RBI for Oxford, and Braden Williams led Greene with a pair of hits.
