G-MU adopts budget

COPES CORNERS – The Gilbertsville-Mt.Upton school board has adopted a budget for the upcoming school year.
Superintendent Doug Exley said “within the past three years the district has seen a 5.2 total increase in the tax levy, meaning year to year, we can handle a large number of expenditures and keep the levy down.”
The budget, scheduled to be voted on May 20, totals $7,995,068, with a 6.6 percent expenditure increase from last year.
The tax levy totals $2,047,003 – a 1.9 percent increase.
The superintendent said the district’s calculation for state aid closely reflected the numbers received from the state Wednesday. Exley said the reasons for the increases include heating oil, diesel fuel and health care premiums. A public hearing for the budget is scheduled for 7 p.m., May 6 in the high school library.
Voting will be held from noon to 8 p.m. in the front lobby May 20.
