Man airlifted after one-car drunk driving wreck in Plymouth
PLYMOUTH – A man was airlifted to Syracuse Monday afternoon with serious head injuries following a one-car accident in the Town of Plymouth.
The driver of the vehicle, Kandy A. Blair, 45, was arrested for DWI and refusal to submit to a chemical test.
The wreck occurred at around 1 p.m. on German Hollow Road near county Rt. 21. Plymouth Volunteer Fire Chief Matt Bates said the vehicle, a gold late-1990s Oldsmobile Cutlass, went off the road and down an embankment, smashing into several trees and heavy brush.
“It looks like they just ran off the road,” said Bates.
The injured passenger, identified as a David Blair, no age given, was not wearing a seat belt, Bates said.
Witnesses say Kandy Blair, county Rt. 21, Smyrna, climbed up to the road and went to a nearby house looking for help.
“She said they weren’t driving anywhere in particular,” said Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputy Sheri Howe.
A City of Norwich EMS crew took the passenger to the Lt. Warren Eaton Airport where he was transported by a Mercy Med-Flight helicopter to Syracuse University Hospital. His condition was unknown at press time Tuesday.
Blair was also charged third degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, according to release from the Sheriff’s Office.
