Norwich unable to contain Windsor bats

Windsor 7, Norwich 1
WINDSOR – In spite of a spotless defensive performance, the Tornado were unable to contain Windsor’s batters in a road defeat Monday.
Tim Costello had two runs scored and lashed a two-run double in Windsor’s home half of the fourth to raise its lead to 6-1. “They had to earn everything, and they are probably one of the best hitting teams we’ve seen this season,” said Norwich coach John Martinson, whose club went error-free. “They hit it deep and found some gaps, and they were also able to string some hits together.”
Mike Moon had an RBI double in the third for Norwich to score Josh Borfitz and cut the Black Knights’ lead in half early on. That was just one of five Norwich hits on the day. “It just came down to us struggling at the plate,” Martinson said. “We didn’t put the ball in play enough to give us more opportunities.”
Norwich hosts Seton Catholic Central today and Chenango Forks Wednesday.

COPES CORNERS – G-MU rushed to a big lead with four-run frames in the opening two innings to capture its third win in four contests this season.
Cody Hall picked up the win striking out 13, while Andrew Delmar had three hits and two RBI. Corin Todd supported Hall’s effort with two ribbies as well. “We didn’t look good in warmups, and even when we were up 8-1, we still didn’t look good,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “Morris stayed aggressive, and the lead was never comfortable for us.”

Chris Reis broke a 6-6 tie in the fourth with an RBI single, and two UV errors – of the Storm’s six in the contest – added two more runs for Deposit.
“The pitching the last two games has done fine. They’re throwing strikes and making the other team put it in play,” said UV coach Tom Locke. “We just have to play better defense behind them; we keep giving the other team extra outs.”
Justin Peek went 2-for-4 on the UV side with a triple and an RBI. Tyler Peet had two RBI. UV (1-4) is at home against Delhi today.

Ethan Grimes had two RBI for DeRuyter and Dave Revette finished with two hits.

Calli Hill also went 3-for-4 with four RBI, while Hillman, Osborne, and Kayla Warner submitted 3-for-4 efforts at the plate in the Raiders’ best offensive game of the season. “The bats came out and did an amazing job,” said G-MU coach Tina Cole. “We weren’t as patient at the plate after we got the early lead.
