NORWICH – Norwich won for the third time this season to surpass last year’s win total, and is doing things on the field that it has not done in several years.
“We have not been a comeback team, but we talked about keeping our lids on our hat up and playing the entire game,” said Norwich coach John Martinson.

Tim Clark hit a two-run double to score Paddy Law and Brock Kossman, and Josh Borfitz drove in Mackay Hotaling with the tying run. Clark scored the game-winner on a wild pitch, and then came on to pitch a one-two-three seventh for the save.

Clark was 2-for-4, Borfitz had two hits and three RBI, and Hotaling had two hits including an RBI double in the fourth.

Oneonta 91, Norwich 50 (girls)
ONEONTA – Norwich ran up against a deep and talented Oneonta club that won all but three events in the boys’ meet, while on the girls’ side, the ‘Jackets took all of the field events to pull away.
“They scored at least four points in every event (in the boys), and what is worse, they swept five events,” said Norwich co-head coach Phil Curley.
Steven Spittler served as the Tornado’s bright spot winning three events. He took the 800-meter, 1600-meter, and 3200-meter races.
Katie Benenati lowered her personal-best time taking the 100-meter dash in 12.9 seconds. She added a win in the 200-meter final and anchored the Tornado’s winning 400-meter relay. As a team, Norwich – boys and girls – set 38 personal-bests, although that was not nearly enough. “On the girls’ side, the number of place-winners was about the same, they just won more events and they clobbered us in the field events,” Curley said.
Norwich runs at Owego on Saturday, travels to Susquehanna Valley Monday, and hosts the annual REK Invitational a week from Friday.
