OXFORD – Oxford won back-to-back contests this weekend, the latter a 10-inning victory over Harpursville Saturday.
Nick Gates drew a walk in the tenth inning, and came around for the game-winner after a wild pitch. Robert Amor led Oxford with four hits, Alex Champlin had two hits and two ribbies, while Jared Hueth picked up two hits.
The Blackhawks never trailed against Sidney, and finished with an error-free contest for the first time this season. Gates had three hits and three runs scored, Josh Jordan also had three hits and two RBI, while Amor and Champlin picked up two hits apiece.
Nate Sortino pitched six innings giving up three runs for the victory. “We hit it pretty well (against Sidney) and I think their pitching staff was a little depleted,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “I was pretty happy the way we bounced back after the loss to Deposit. It was probably our best game of the year.”

SAUQUOIT – Sherburne-Earlville pulled away with three runs in the seventh to win a Center State Conference road game with Sauquoit Valley Friday.
Steve Buddenhagen, Billy Craine, and Mike Doscher delivered RBIs in the inning. Nolan Fuller went 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Phil Price logged five innings for the win. “Defensively, we looked really good today and our hits came at big times,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks.
The Marauders backed up that win with a solid 8-1 triumph over Mohawk. Caleb Brown was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI, and Jake Sampson pitched 5 1-3 innings for the victory.

ONEONTA – Oneonta’s five-run third inning was enough to thwart another Norwich comeback effort in Friday’s matchup.
Larry Jankowski had an RBI single, Jeff Willsie followed with an RBI double, and Andy Dickinson’s RBI made it 5-0.
Norwich, which had two come-from-behind wins earlier in the week, scored three runs in the fifth. Tyler Saroka singled home Christian Hotaling, and Mackay Hotaling followed with a two-run homer. “Early on we had difficulty with their pitcher, but after seeing a pitcher the first time through the lineup, we do a better job,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “Oneonta is a great defensive club, and they were on fire in the third inning. I was proud of the way we fought back,”
Norwich’s Josh Borfitz was sterling in relief tossing 3 1-3 innings giving up no runs and one hit.

SOUTH OTSELIC – Otselic Valley scored in every inning getting a grand slam from David Cerasani and four RBI from Adam Duell in a rout of Cincinnatus Friday.
Eric Wentworth added three hits, and Cerasani along with Chris Olin combined to limit Cincy to just three hits.
“We hit the ball pretty well up and down the lineup,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “Their pitcher had trouble finding the strike zone, and it was one of those days where everything went well for us, and they struggled.”
OV hosts Stockbridge Valley Tuesday.

BAINBRIDGE – B-G scored seven runs in its opening at-bat, and held on for a one-run win over Hancock Friday.
James Ruff had two hits, Brian Engel was 2-for-2 with two RBI, and Dustin Rutz’s two-run single highlighted the opening inning. Rutz also put out the fire in Hancock’s four-run seventh getting the final outs for the save. Dustin Miller earned the victory.
Kyle Houshultz hit a two-run homer for Hancock.

GREENE – Greene had perhaps its best hitting game of the season, but too many errors and base on balls proved its downfall in Saturday’s game.
“We had chances to win, but we’re still making too many mistakes,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “I was happy with our approach at the plate, and we hit the ball hard a lot of times.”
Justin VanWert led Greene with a perfect 5-for-5 day. Scott Gorton tripled twice driving in five runs, and Nick Puglisi added three RBI.
Kyle Palmer homered and tripled going 5-for-5 to pace Unatego.

SAUQUOIT – Sherburne-Earlville saves its hitting heroics for the late innings winning a pair of come-from-behind games Friday and Saturday.
Friday, the Marauders (6-1) needed a three-run seventh to overtake SV. Brenda Hoefler’s RBI triple tied the game, and after Kate Fitzpatrick was hit by a pitch, Bree Neisinger smacked a two-run double for the margin of victory.
“That was a good league win for us,” said S-E coach Scott Fitzpatrick. “We had to come back against Dolgeville earlier in the season, so the kids knew they could do it again.”
Samantha Crandall hit a two-run homer in the fourth, and Lindsay Hodges struck out nine for the win.
Saturday, Mohawk put forth a more spirited effort than the early-season meeting in which S-E won 23-2.
Five runs in the bottom of the sixth gave the Marauders the lead for the first time. Hoefler had a two-run triple, while Morgan Reid, Fitzpatrick, record, and Hodges added ribbies.
Fitzpatrick led with a 3-for-4 day, while Hoefler, Hodges, and Megan Record added two hits apiece. The Marauders host Waterville today.

Benenati part of three NHS wins
OWEGO – Norwich sophomore Katie Benenati won two individual events and anchored a winning relay in Saturday’s Owego Invitational.
Benenati remained unbeaten in the 100 meters (13.5) and 200 meters (27.9), while teaming with Cleo Daoud, Sarah Bonnell, and Devon Palen to easily claim the 400-meter relay (53.1). “We only took eight girls, so to place as well as we did is not bad at all,” said Norwich co-head coach Phil Curley, whose club polled 59 points.
Benenati tied in the long jump with 16-feet, 2 1/2-inches, but fell to second in the tiebreaker.
Norwich junior Steven Spittler had the lone win on the boys’ side taking the 1600-meter run (4:46).
Today, Norwich is at Susquehanna Valley.
