Unison, P&G receive awards
GREENE – Commerce Chenango has announced the 2008 award recipients that will be presented at the 49th Annual Dinner on Wednesday at the Silo in Greene. Unison Industries in Norwich will receive the Distinguished Business of the Year Award and Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals will receive an Award of Appreciation.
It is a testament to the company’s integrity for Unison Industries to be acknowledged as the Distinguished Business of the Year. Serving the aviation industry, Unison continually sets new standards for performance, technology, and support. By anticipating their customers’ needs and investing in research and development, Unison is able to stay ahead of the market and deliver cost-effective solutions that work.
Unison recently received OSHA’s Voluntary Protections Programs Star designation for being one of the safest companies in the entire country. Of the seven million eligible work sites in the U.S., Unison was one of only 1,869 that earned the designation. They are currently the “center for excellence” for the entire corporation for speed and temperature sensor production. Unison employs over 300 and are looking to increase their workforce yet again by the end of 2008.
Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals has been a mainstay in Norwich since 1982 when the Company purchased Norwich-Eaton Pharmaceuticals. In 1987 P&G celebrated its 150th anniversary and ranked as the second oldest company among the 50 largest Fortune 500 companies. Throughout their history in Chenango County, they have provided contributions and sponsorships to our communities. Some events, festivals and organizations benefiting from their generosity have included: Gus Macker, the Blues Festival, Pumpkinfest, local food pantries, schools, booster clubs and non-profit organizations. In addition, the company and its employees have been huge supporters of the Chenango United Way, one year donating as much as $134,000. They have remained a top employer in the county and have encouraged their employees to be active members in a variety of organizations. It is with this in mind that Commerce Chenango will honor P&G in appreciation for their past support in all of our lives.
The dinner, sponsored by NBT Bank, will commence at 5:30 with a cash bar and silent auction, with the awards presentation scheduled to begin at 7:30. Cost for the dinner is $60 for Chamber members and $70 for non-members. Reservations for the dinner can be made by calling 334-1400 or by email to rcrandall@chenangony.org.
