Bryan White to headline Norwich's July 4 celebration
NORWICH – Country singer Bryan White will be this year’s headline performer at Chenango County’s 4th of July celebration.
“We are excited to have such a high caliber artist and performer headlining this year’s show,” said event organizer Terry Potter.
The festivities kick off in the early afternoon at the fairgrounds. The Place, the Norwich Career Firefighters and Potter’s company, Millennia Entertainment, are collaborating to bring an array of new activities for all. Admission is $5 and free for children under 7.
Community readers and volunteers are still needed for the Family Fun Zone, Potter said, which offers a variety of special children’s characters and an arts and crafts section.
New this year will be a “Chenango Idol” singing competition. The ‘Idol’ competition will feature 20 singers, ages 18 and over, competing for a chance to win a grand prize. Participants will be chosen on a first come, first served basis and space is limited. To sign up, call Potter at 316-2870.
Amidst the food, the midway rides and a return of the hot air balloon launch, firefighters will be on hand for the annual fireworks display at dusk, followed by Bryan White’s headlining performance at the grandstand.
White entered into the country music scene in the mid 1990s with a string of six number one singles. His website states that the media and the industry alike “noticed the genuine singing talent behind the good looks and passionate performances that earned Bryan a host of awards.”
The talented young performer has received the CMA’s Horizon award and the Academy of Country Music’s Top New Male Vocalist award. He was named CMT Rising Star and Male Video Artist of the Year, TNN/Music City News Star of Tomorrow, and SRO Touring Artist of the Year.
A native of Oklahoma City, White helped to aid the city after the terrorist attacks and was said to have raised millions. He received a special Humanitarian Award for his efforts. In addition, he has since worked to aid a host of causes ranging from children’s issues to AIDS, and was named recipient of the 1997 Entertainment Radio Networks’ Humanitarian Award.
Professionally, White continued to cover many fronts. He played drums on musical mentor Steve Wariner’s Grammy-nominated instrumental album “No More Mr. Nice Guy” and embarked on the wildly popular “Something To Talk About” tour with LeAnn Rimes and proved himself a top songwriter, penning several of his own hits, plus co-writing the Sawyer Brown Top 5 hit “I Don’t Believe In Goodbye.” The singer’s duet with Shania Twain, “From This Moment On” also went No. 1 and received a Grammy nomination.
The singer embarked on special projects over the years including a duet with Amy Grant for the Atlantic Records project, recorded “When You Wish Upon A Star” for “The Best Of Country Sings The Best Of Disney,” and was cast as the singing voice for the lead male character in Warner Bros.’ first fully-animated major motion picture, “Quest For Camelot.”
White has appeared multiple times on “The Tonight Show,” “The Late Show With David Letterman” and “Regis & Kathie Lee.” He has also performed on NBC’s “Today” and “CBS This Morning” and made a special appearance on the soap opera “The Bold & The Beautiful.” Bryan was also named one of People Magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People.”
In 2000, Bryan took some time off to get away from the buzz of the music business and started his family. Now with a new album and tour underway, he will entertain Chenango County on Independence Day.
To sponsor the event, become a volunteer or sign up for the activities, call Terry Potter at 316-2870.
