Canastota 3, Sherburne-Earlville 0
SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville was unable to capitalize on its meager scoring opportunities, and lost its first division game of the season Wednesday to Canastota.
After failing to score with runners in scoring position in the second and third innings, Canastota broke through against S-E starter Lindsay Hodges in the fifth. Alicia Hibbard and Elaine Peters connected for RBI singles – the only runs needed for winning pitcher Liz McGinley.
S-E put runners on the corners in the third and sixth innings – the former with just one out. Those were the only two innings it had a runner on third base. “I’d rather have a game like this at this point of the season rather than when it gets down to the wire,” said S-E coach Scott Fitzpatrick. “Now we have to go up there and beat them later this year.”
The Marauders (2-1, 6-2) play at Cooperstown Friday.
