Seventh annual Allegro Run for Arts this weekend
NORWICH – The Chenango County Council of the Arts will be holding its seventh annual Allegro Run for the Arts this weekend, and with current weather forecasts predicting a mild, warm day, organizers hope they will see even more people taking part in the event this year.
The Allegro Run for the Arts is a fund raising event to support the programs offered at the Council of the Arts, including both performances and gallery shows held throughout the year. Registration is $15 per person up to the day of the race, and $20 per person on Saturday.
This year the CCCA will also offer a discounted registration fee for those 18 and under. Runners 18 and under can register in advance or on race day for $10.
Last year approximately 60 people participated in the race. “We’re trying to encourage more families and younger people to get involved,” said Arts Council Director Victoria Kappel.
Last year’s race included both a 5-mile course and a 5K course; however because of the huge popularity of the 5K, this year, the CCCA has decided to eliminate the 5-mile option. “Originally the Allegro run started as a 5 mile race, but as more and more people went to the 5K, we decided to just do that,” Kappel explained.
The run will begin at 9 a.m. at the Council of the Arts building, located at 27 W. Main St. in Norwich. Registration will be held from 8 to 8:45 a.m. the day of the race. Anyone wishing to register in advance can visit the Council of the Arts during regular business hours.
The 5K course will wind through the City of Norwich progressing in a rectangular pattern from West Main Street to Canasawacta Street, and back around the city, ending by traveling down Elm Street and back to the Council of the Arts Building.
Everyone who participates in the run will receive a T-shirt, and an award ceremony will follow the race.
For more information, call 336-2787 or visit the web site at www.chenangoarts.org. Registration forms are available for download and interested parties can see a map of the race area.
“It’s a lot of fun,” said Kappel. “Everyone should come. It’s a great race.”
