Late runs give Point win over Norwich
Baseball
Whitney Point 4, Norwich 2
NORWICH – Whitney Point scored two runs in the top of the seventh to break a two-all tie and win at Norwich Thursday.
Aaron Singer and James Andrew, the number eight and nine hitters for the Golden Eagles, singled and eventually scored on Dustin Crandall’s two-out, two-strike infield grounder that resulted in a throwing error.
“We stranded a lot of runners in scoring position, and the errors we committed occurred at the wrong time of the game,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “When you make mistakes at that time of the game (in the seventh), you cannot expect to win.”
Mackay Hotaling had an RBI single in the second for Norwich and Richie Bonney led NHS with two hits. Norwich hosts Chenango Valley today.

Walton 8, Greene 7
WALTON – Walton overcame Greene’s 6-3 lead with timely fifth and sixth innings to defeat the visiting Trojans.
An error, walk, and a single loaded the bases in the sixth for Walton in the sixth, and a base on balls scored the first run. After tying the game, Walton’s Pat O’Brien hit an “excuse-me” single past a drawn-in Greene infield for the game-winner.
“We’re doing a lot of things better than we have been,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “We had timely hitting and put our hits together. We fielded the ball well, but it is just one of those things where we have to be a little more confident in tough situations.”
Greene grabbed the lead scoring five runs in the fourth. Scott Gorton had an RBI single and Dan Carlin singled in two more on his way to a three-RBI day. Nick Puglisi went 2-for-2 and has reached base safely eight straight times over the past two games.
Greene plays at Sidney today.

Afton (5-5) chipped away thanks to some early-inning wildness for Oxford. Bryant Winans drove in one run and Jake Arnold scored one of his two runs of the day. Oxford reliever Nate Sortino retired Afton’s Adam Berkeley with two runners on base on a lineout to second base to end the contest.
