Softball
BAINBRIDGE – Sherburne-Earlville broke a team record for wins (14) shutting out Unatego 4-0 and Sidney 13-0 in the finals of the Sidney Federal Credit Union Tournament Saturday.
Lindsay Hodges was named the tournament’s most valuable player striking out 17 in the championship game and 29 over the tournament allowing just five total hits and one base on balls.
“It was satisfying to come up here and win,” said S-E coach Scott Fitzpatrick. “The girls have worked hard to get to where they are.”
The Marauders opened the flood gates against Sidney scoring nine runs in the fourth to grab an 11-0 lead. Kate Fitzpatrick cleared the bases with a three-run double, and Bree Neisinger followed with an RBI triple. Neisinger and Fitzpatrick led with three RBI apiece, while Hodges added two RBI to aid her pitching effort. Brenda Hoefler added three hits.
S-E scored four runs in the top of the seventh to pull away from Unatego in the opener. Fitzpatrick had a bases-loaded single to score the first run, and Crandall followed with a three-run triple. Hodges allowed just one hit striking out 12.
Fitzpatrick, Neisinger, and Crandall were also named to the all-tournament team.
S-E (14-2) plays at Center State Conference power Canastota today.

Felicia Jones hit a two-run triple to score Karli Harris and Samantha Crandall with the game-winning runs.
Lindsay Hodges struck out the side finishing with 10 strikeouts for the victory. Bree Neisinger and Crandall added ribbies in the contest.

NEW BERLIN – Unatego had just two hits, but made the most of the second one as Rachel Mugford delivered a two-out single after two UV errors in the sixth to plate the winning run in the sixth inning Friday.
UV hurt its own offensive effort hitting into line-drive double plays in the fourth and sixth innings to squelch rallies.
Hannah Johnson was 3-for-3 with an RBI for UV, and Kristen Elliott went 2-for-3.

NORWICH – Windsor halted Norwich’s three-game winning streak taking advantage of “tired arms” as Tornado coach John Martinson summed up his pitching staff.
Tim Costello went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored to lead the Black Knights. Kyle Krause pitched six innings striking out four to notch the win. “We weren’t able to hit any gaps with our bats, and they played quality defense,” Martinson said. “Their pitching was sound and their bats were hot. They were aggressive on the bases and moved runners around almost every inning.”
Norwich (7-6) plays at Chenango Forks at 4 p.m. today.

WATERVILLE – Sherburne-Earlville had a much easier time with Waterville rolling past the host club 24 hours after a nail-biting S-E win the day before.
Nate Kline helped the Marauders create an 8-1 bulge after two innings clearing the bases with a three-run triple in the second. Steve Buddenhagen tacked on a two-run homer in the seventh on his way to a 3-for-5 day. Ethan Sconzo led the Marauders with four hits, three runs, and three stolen bases. Mike Doscher also collected two hits.
Caleb Brown pitched four innings allowing just one run for the victory. “We were able to jump on them early, take care of the lead, and then we could relax,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks.

Greene – Chris Meade hit a three-run triple in the second inning opening Walton’s lead up in a win at Greene Friday.
The Warriors added three unearned runs to keep the Trojans at bay. “We didn’t make a lot of errors, but we did have a couple of catchable flyballs we didn’t get a glove on that cost us,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “We manufactured some runs and drew some walks, but for the most part, we could not get the big hit we needed.”
Dan Carlin had three of Greene’s four hits. The Trojans play at Delhi today.
