Testimony continues in Sacco trial

BINGHAMTON – Testimony in the child sex trafficking case against Dean Sacco continued in a Binghamton federal courtroom Monday. Senior U.S. District Court Judge Thomas J. McAvoy denied Sacco’s attorney’s request for a mistrial, and also denied striking from the record last week’s testimony regarding Sacco’s alleged admission of having sex with a minor.
This is the second week of testimony in the trial of Linda O’Connor, 46, of Norwich, and Sacco, 49, of Jersey City, N.J., who are charged with buying a child for sex, sex trafficking of a child, and possessing and producing child pornography for filming encounters with the girl. Sacco also is accused of driving over state lines to have sex with a minor. It is alleged that O’Connor sold the girl to Sacco, exchanging her sexual favors for back rent O’Connor owed to Sacco.
Monday’s testimony centered around Sacco’s alleged admission of guilt and his personal diary, videotapes, and an autobiography. Diary excerpts read in court indicated Sacco’s addiction to Internet pornography. Judge McAvoy was expected to rule this morning whether the manuscript of Sacco’s autobiography would be allowed into evidence.
O’Connor rented an apartment in Norwich from Sacco beginning in August 2006, according to court records. She was charged by Norwich police with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal contempt.
Sacco, who was arrested by Norwich police, also faces state trial in Chenango County on felony charges related to the alleged rapes. Sacco served time in prison for hijacking a bus in 1991.
The girl, now 14, told FBI agents she had sex with Sacco at least five times in 2006 and 2007. The girl also claimed O’Connor sold her for sex with two different strangers at a Johnson City hotel in late 2006.
