Local man gets probation for burglary charges

NORWICH – A man who the district attorney said “was in trouble every week,” seems to have shown the court he is willing to change, prior to sentencing Monday.
Daniel Sabines was sentenced to five years probation after he pleaded guilty to burglary in the third degree, a class D felony.
Sabines with lawyer Linden Summers discussed his actions of bettering himself with Chenango County Judge W. Howard Sullivan and District Attorney Joseph McBride.
“My client understands the rules of probation,” said Summers. When asked, Daniel Sabines stated, he had successfully completed the Leading Edge program offered at BOCES in Norwich and had a job interview lined up for Thursday.
“I appreciate you guys giving me a chance to turn my life around,” said the defendant.
McBride said he is willing to go along with the sentencing but of any violations are made he will personally ensure that Sabines will be incarcerated and removed from the community for an extended period of time.
In addition to the already lined out probation rules, Judge Sullivan outlined numerous other special regulations Sabines is to abide by which included no additional trouble, being gainfully employed at least 35 hours a week, spending time with people who are suitable by probationary standards, living in a place that probation officers approve of, going to no establishment where alcohol is served, submit to random drug testing and having no illegal weapons in his possession.
