Man placed on temporary probation for grand larceny
NORWICH – After getting indicted on a four-count charge, a man stood before a Supreme Court Justice Friday and changed his plea to guilty.
Eric Maynard pleaded guilty to grand larceny in the fourth degree, a class E felony. The plea will cover the three other counts in the indictment.
The defendant, represented by attorney William Gabor, was placed on temporary probation for one year.
If Maynard complies with all the terms and conditions as set up by the probation department, he will be re-sentenced next year. Once the year is complete, Maynard will have an opportunity to withdraw the guilty plea for the felony and take a plea for petit larceny, a misdemeanor. He would later serve an additional three years of probation.
If the defendant does not obey by the regulations laid out by probation, he could face state incarceration.
“If he fails, I will demand state prison,” said Assistant District Attorney Stephen Dunshee.
As part of his sentencing, Maynard is also required to pay a restitution fee of $9,045.48.
In June of 2007, he was arrested in the Town of Greene for stealing another person’s property. Following that, Maynard was charged with grand larceny after he, acting as store manager of Curtis Lumber, stole property of another person.
“This is a heck of a break,” said Supreme Court Justice Kevin Dowd following sentencing. “Let’s hope it ends here. Good choices lead to good results and bad choices lead to bad results.”
