COPES CORNERS – G-MU ran up the score on Downsville early to blow out the visitors for the second time this season.
Tyler Wildfeir and Andrew Delmar each had three hits and two RBI. Jon Scofield, Luke Acanfora, Cody Luettger, and Nate Sloan added two hits. The Raiders led 11-0 after three innings and finished with 18 hits. “It was a lot of fun for everyone,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “The bats were going and they were all getting involved in the offense.”
G-MU plays at DeRuyter today.

Otselic Valley 17, McGraw 7
SOUTH OTSELIC – Otselic Valley beat McGraw for the second time in 24 hours scoring 13 runs in the third inning to pull away.
The Vikings sent 18 men to the plate in the third collecting nine hits, drawing three walks, and reaching on three errors. “It was one of those innings where we hit it well and they had trouble fielding the ball,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “It seemed like the inning would never end, and we needed it because they shut us down the rest of the game.”
David Cerasani drove in four runs for the Vikings and Eric Wentworth had three RBI. OV hosts Madison Thursday.

Softball

McGraw 9, Otselic Valley 8
SOUTH – Otselic Valley’s rally in the bottom of the seventh fell one run short in a home loss to McGraw Tuesday.
Melinda Schutt had an RBI triple, and Amber Wood’s one-out single scored Schutt. McGraw recorded the final two outs without incident to hold on.
Wood went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead OV (4-10).
Tori Finton homered in the second for McGraw.

Unadilla Valley 4, Edmeston 3
NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley overcame seven errors to defeat Edmeston Tuesday in a non-league matchup.
The Storm (7-9) broke a 1-1 tie in the third getting and RBI single from Kristen Elliott and a bases-loaded walk by Brooke Maynard. Katrina Benson’s RBI single to score Kara Collins in the fourth proved the winning run.
“We had six errors the day before and seven today,” said UV assistant coach Brandi Backus. “It’s got to stop because you won’t survive very long in sectionals making that many errors.”
Elliott allowed five hits and struck out 11 for the victory.

SHERBURNE – S-E senior Corey Fitzgerald matched a school record shooting a two-under-par 33 in Sherburne-Earlville’s victory over Waterville Tuesday at Mountain Top Golf Club.
Fitzgerald offset two bogeys with an eagle and two birdies. Kory Rice was next at 43 and Sean Boice carded a 44. S-E (6-3) is at Canastota Wednesday.

SOUTH EDMESTON – Oxford finished an 11-1 dual match schedule beating Edmeston at Red Pines Golf Club Tuesday.
Cory Seiler shot an even-par 36 to medal for the Blackhawks, while John Witchella continued a strong second half of the season firing a one-over-par 37. Scott Seiler added a 40 for Oxford.
Cory and Scott Seiler compete in the Section IV Medalist Tournament Thursday at Cornell University Golf Club.

NORWICH – In Norwich’s final dual meet of the season, Maine-Endwell handed the Tornado girls their second loss in league competition, while the Spartans’ boys showed superior depth.
Jesse Prosser and Steven Spittler had two wins apiece to lead the Tornado. Prosser captured the 100 meters and long jump, while Spittler followed up a double-win at the S-E Invitational with victories in the 1600 and 3200 meters.
Norwich’s 200-meter trio of Benenati, Cleo Daoud, and Sarah Bonnell had their fourth sweep in five league meets, and the speedy threesome scored 44 out of a possible 45 team points this season, said co-head coach Phil Curley.
M-E’s girls dominated the relay and distance events outscoring Norwich 37-0 in races over 800 meters. “We were basically taking two out of three places in all of the other events,” Curley said. “But 37 points is a lot to make up.”
In addition to teaming on the first-place 400-meter relay, Benenati won the 100- and 200-meter dashes along with the long jump. Kayla May was first in the 400 hurdles, Brittany Barnes won the shot put and Elisha Eddy the 400-meter dash.
Norwich’s girls compete at M-E’s Rotary Invitational Friday, while the boys travel to Union-Endicott Saturday for the Parkhurst Invitational.
