School Board seats up for vote county-wide March 20
CHENANGO COUNTY – Chenango County’s voters head to the polls May 20th to approve or vote down their school district’s budget and to determine which candidates will become members of the school board.
School boards are responsible for making many decisions in each district from budget expenditures and curriculum offerings to personnel and materials needs. They meet once or twice a month.
• Afton - one available seat on the board, but no nominee.
• Bainbridge-Guilford - two seats available with incumbent, Jeanne Shields and newcomer, Howard Lockhart both on the ballot.
• Gilbertsville Mt. Upton - three incumbents, Harold “Manny” Button, Lisa Carkuff and Jerry Theis will run for three available seats.
• Greene - two seats available and write-in candidate, William Kline, seeks a position on the board.
• Oxford - two seats available and incumbent, Eugene Rood and newcomer Mary Branham are running.
• Unadilla Valley - four candidates are up for three available seats: Incumbents Bill Lyons and Victoria Gregory, and newcomers John Elliott and Clifton Frink.
• Norwich - seven candidates are running for four available seats. Incumbents, Pricilla Johnson and Clyde Birch are running as well as Tim Brown (who was appointed at mid-year). Newcomers include: Sally Chirlin, Joe Stagliano, Mark Hollifield and Kim Mack. A “Meet the Candidates Night” is scheduled at 7 p.m., May 15 at the Eaton Center.
• In the Sherburne-Earlville School District - four candidates will run for three open seats. Board President Stephen Harris and board member John Brown seek reelection. Randy Foster and Susan Osbourne will also vie for a board position.
• In the Otselic Valley School District - two candidates will run for the one open position. Board Vice President Marcia Marshall will run against Terri Hammond.
