Nichols to leave post as Dean of Morrisville Norwich Campus
NORWICH – Dr. Edward “Ted” Nichols, dean of Morrisville State College’s Norwich Campus, is resigning in late June to take another position at a Pennsylvania community college, he told The Evening Sun Friday.
“It was a very difficult decision – my family and I have become very attached to this community,” said Nichols, who’s been head of the Norwich campus since July 2002. “My wife, kids and I have been talking about this opportunity for the last week or so. It was a decision that had to be made fairly quickly, and we’ve decided to make that move.”
Nichols will take over July 21 as Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, located in Johnstown, Pa., about 93 miles east of Pittsburgh.
“My family and I have developed a real fondness for Norwich and Chenango County,” said Nichols, who came to Norwich from Pennsylvania. “We made wonderful friends and neighbors here, and it’s been a privilege to work for Morrisville.”
Morrisville has not named a replacement, Nichols said, and will pick-up discussions in the near future as to how it plans to fill the position.
As dean, Nichols oversaw the Norwich Campus’ transition into the state-of-art Roger W. Follett Hall building in May 2005, as well as the implementation of three new two-year degree programs – Human Services, Early Childhood and Criminal Justice.
“As a campus, we were very involved in trying to help the community meet the challenges of the future,” said Nichols.
