DeRuyter beats Vikings for second time this season

DERUYTER – DeRuyter won its second tight league game over Otselic Valley this season scoring two runs in the fourth to hand the Vikes a Central Counties League defeat Monday.
Ethan Grimes scored the eventual winning run with a single in the fourth to make it a 2-0 game. OV closed the gap in the sixth getting a single ribbie from Brad Wentworth. “It was another one of those games where we had baserunners on, and we could not get hits at the right time,” said Vikings coach Dave Loomis. “Twice we had runners on second and third with no outs, and were not able to score.”
Chris Olin had a double and went 2-for-2 to pace OV (12-5), who play at Cincinnatus today.

Softball

DeRuyter 10, Otselic Valley 4
DERUYTER – Otselic Valley was limited to one hit, while committing five errors on the defensive side to aid the Rockets’ run production Monday.
“We just gave up the errors (five) when they had runners in scoring position,” said OV coach Eileen Knickerbocker.
OV’s Cindy Slack had her team’s lone hit, a two-run single in the fifth inning. The Vikings play at Cincinnatus today.

Golf

Class C Team Tournament
MARATHON – Oxford finished one stroke out of a tie for sixth place at the Section IV, Class C team sectionals Monday at Maple Hill Golf Club.
Scott Seiler (86) and Cory Seiler (89) were the lone Blackhawks to break 90 under difficult morning conditions. As a team, Oxford scored 454, 44 strokes behind first-place Elmira Notre Dame.
“It was difficult scoring conditions for everyone,” said Oxford coach Pete Anderson. “It was very windy and cold, and it even snowed for a couple of minutes.”
Oxford finished its regular season match schedule at 11-1.
