Norwich clinches winning season with victory over Oxford

NORWICH – Norwich clinched a winning season as it enters sectional play next week coasting to a non-league win over local rival Oxford Friday.
Tim Clark pitched a complete-game four-hitter striking out eight, and the Tornado (9-7) scored in every frame save the fifth inning. “We were just extremely relaxed at the plate and picking the ball up well out of the pitcher’s hand,” said Norwich coach John Martinson.
Already leading 5-1, Norwich doubled its output getting ribbies from Christian Hotaling, Parick Coates, and Paddy Law. Andrew Austin finished off the inning smacking a two-run double.
Josh Borfitz and Mike Moon had 2-for-3 days, while Clark and Tyler Saroka also had two hits.
P.J. Hubman had a lead-off double in the first inning for Oxford, and he scored on a wild pitch. Norwich hosts Owego Tuesday.

Track and Field

S-E competes at Center State Conference meet
Danielle Green had personal-bests in the 100- and 200-meter races finishing third with times of 13.4 and 28.4 at the Center State Conference track and field meet last week.
The Marauders’ other top-three performance came from Kassie Lathrop, who was third in the 3,000 meters timing a 12:31.
S-E moves on the Section III, Class B meet May 28-29 at Canastota. Competing will be the 3200-meter relay, Green in the 100 and 200 meters, Lathrop in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, and Alysha Harlost in the pentathlon.
