NORWICH – The school year is coming to a close and that means summer is here. Now that children will be having more free time, it is important to remind them to have fun in a safe way. The perfect way to accomplish this is to attend the annual Safe Summer Fun Day Friday hosted by the Place and Chenango County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services.
Safe Summer Fun Day will be held between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. June 13 in Kurt Beyer park. “It will be a really good event. Everyone should come down and spend time with their families,” said Mark Parsons, who along with Annika Pettit, co-chairs the event. This will be their second year working with Heidi Foster from The Place.
The event began as an annual bike rodeo to teach children safe bike practices. Now it has evolved into a family-oriented festival sponsored by approximately 30 local businesses and organizations. This year’s bike rodeo is being planned by the Norwich High School Student Government, Key Club, and Service Learning Program.
