Names of Sherburne accident victims released
SHERBURNE – Investigation into the weekend accident that took the life of one Sherburne resident and left another in critical condition is continuing, according to a statement finally issued yesterday by New York State Police Troop C.
The single-car crash occurred in the early morning on Saturday, July 5 on State Route 80 in the Town of Sherburne. The driver, Shawn A. Maxson, 20, and passenger Dustin York, 17, were traveling westbound on State Route 80, east of the Village of Sherburne. Maxson reportedly lost control of the 1997 Subaru he was driving. According to the State Police press release, the vehicle then traveled off the northbound shoulder, striking an earth embankment and overturning numerous times. The accident was reported at 5:24 a.m. The Sherburne Fire Department and Mercy Flight Helicopter responded to the scene.
Maxson was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
York was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was airlifted to University Hospital in Syracuse. He is currently listed in serious condition. State Police have reported that neither Maxson nor York were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. However further details are still under investigation. According to the State Police, they are still awaiting the results of toxicology reports. No reason was given for the delay in releasing the details of the accident thus far.
Funeral services for Maxson will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from the Burgess and Tedesco Funeral Home in Sherburne. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday. A complete obituary appears on today’s Page 6.
