Electric upgrades for the Village of Sherburne

SHERBURNE – In order to become more energy efficient and to manage power outages more effectively, the Village of Sherburne is looking at an electrical system upgrade that would replace existing electric meters with new digital devices.

The village has been taking many steps to upgrade its municipal facilities and become more energy efficient recently. Sherburne has just completed water and sewer projects, and last month received a $25,000 grant to make energy efficiency improvements to some municipal buildings. The municipal electric upgrades would be one more step the village is taking toward energy efficiency.

The Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is cutting edge technology that would allow the village to do instantaneous meter readings.

“With the price of heating fuel going up, more and more people are putting on electrical heat. This will allow us to manage the growth on our system, and it allows for a larger allocation of hydro-power,” Acee said.

Although Sherburne will soon be constructing a new building for its electric department at the village business park, Acee said there would be no problem moving the system from one building to another. “It’s all computer based. There will be no hardware that we will have to move.”
