NORWICH – Weiler Park could see an upgrade in the coming months. At Tuesday night’s meeting of the City of Norwich Common Council, $30,000 was approved for the purchase of new playground equipment.

At an earlier meeting of the City Finance/Personnel Committee, City Department of Public Works Superintendent Carl Ivarson told the committee the parks commission had selected equipment to be replaced at Weiler Park. The replacement of the equipment was necessary as the result of an insurance safety review.

The equipment will be supplied and installed by Parkitects, a company out of Lansing. Money for the replacement will come from the parks equipment capital reserve account. “We’ve been working on this for years, but it’s taken time to save the money,” Ivarson told the council.

The equipment that will be installed at Weiler Park will include a PlayBooster structure capable of holding five to 12 children. The structure will be made of durable plastic, and will include tubes, ladders, slides and hanging equipment. A wood fiber material will be placed on the ground in case a child falls. The wood fiber will replace the gravel that is currently there.
