Library and Community Center opens
McDONOUGH – McDonough library volunteers scrambled to shelve a few last-minute books on Saturday morning as they waited for the library’s very first patrons to arrive. The much-anticipated library and Calvary Community Center opened its doors for the first time this weekend.
One of the first patrons through the door was library supporter and former McDonough resident Debbie Eldred, who said she felt honored to be there for the occasion. “I hated to see this beautiful church stand in ruin,” said Eldred. After a tour of the newly renovated facility, Eldred browsed the children’s book section with her grandchildren, Evan and Elise.
Also present for the event was Vicki Langer, the 16 year-old holder of library card number 001. Langer has been waiting patiently to use her card for the first time since she received it two weeks ago. Already planning her next visit, Langer paused while checking out her books to find out about the library’s hours of operation.
