United Way announces prize giveaways as part of 2008 campaign
CHENANGO COUNTY – The Chenango United Way campaign will officially kick off on Sept. 27, and this year there will be even more incentive to donate to with the introduction of prize drawings.
“We felt we could increase participation by offering prizes,” said CUW Executive Director Elizabeth Monaco. “Communities around us have used prizes for the last few years, and we wanted to offer the same opportunities to our donors.” This year the CUW hopes to raise $465,000 before its campaign ends on Dec. 31.
The 2008 United Way campaign will offer donors the chance to win one of two prizes donated by area businesses. “We’re grateful to both companies for donating prizes,” Monaco said. She explained that the donations helped the CUW to offer incentives while freeing up money for other items. Manpower donated a 32-inch flat screen LCD television to the campaign, valued at approximately $500. Mirabito Fuel Group donated a $500 gas card.
“Times are tough,” said campaign co-chair Bruce Beadle, who is working with Amber Harrison of Norwich Pharmaceuticals to head up this year’s drive. “Everybody is feeling it with the high gas prices and the economy the way it is. If we can offer an incentive to help somebody out while they’re helping others, that’s something we’re going to do.”
