Change of venue denied in Wlasiuk retrial

ALBANY – A state court has denied a change of venue motion made by the defense in the Peter M. Wlasiuk murder retrial.
The State of New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department, which overturned the original murder conviction nearly two years ago on Aug. 31, 2006, decided Thursday that if Wlasiuk is to have his case moved, it will have to be after attorneys have exhausted Chenango County’s jury pool.
Wlasiuk is accused of murdering his wife, Patricia, in 2002.
Wlasiuk’s attorney, Randel Sharf, could not be reached for comment immediately. District Attorney Joseph McBride said he could not comment, but confirmed that jury selection would begin Tuesday, Sept. 2. A complete story will appear in Friday’s edition of The Evening Sun.
