Gilbertsville church to host renown classical artists

GILBERTSVILLE – This Labor Day weekend, the halls of a local church will be filled with the professional notes of several renowned classical artists who have spent that last several weeks preparing their work at a nearby music retreat.
The group will be performing at the First Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville, today and Saturday. Admission is free and open to the public.
“I’m not sure if I know of a single place that can offer this incredible level of talent for absolutely no cost,” Director of Magic Mountain Music Farm Burton Kaplan said.
The performances begin tonight at 7:30 and at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Both concerts will take place at the Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville along Route 51.
“The programs will feature works of Beethoven, Bottesini, Brahms, Chausson, Franck, Hindemith, Prokofiev and Ravel. Each program contains enough variety to please every taste,” said the director.
Kaplan also said that the “devilish solo double bass performances,” were especially difficult and impressive.
“The Summermusic Festival Concerts have coaxed audiences from far and wide to the unique town, Gilbertsville, an historic landmark, for 16 years,” he said.
Appearing for his seventh consecutive year is pianist extraordinaire Cullan Bryant. “His ability to create a unique character for each work always generates pleasure,” said Kaplan.
Returning for an eighth time is violinist Marvin Suson. Many of the artists who will be performing at the show have participated in past events, but the group will welcome new talent as well.
Many of the artists traveled to the remote retreat in Morris to escape the professional pressures they are often subjected to. While at the retreat, artists focus on their music free of distraction.
Kaplan explained that the show is, “the culmination of two weeks of intensive preparation at Magic Mountain Music Farm. In the creative haven of the farm, The Millennium Strings practice in an idyllic, distraction free environment, deepening their relation to their art and exploring new techniques for tapping their creative energies.”
