Local author to sign books at Colorscape

NORWICH – Works of art will be on display throughout East and West Park this weekend, and one local author will be on hand to ensure the literary arts won’t be left out.
McDonough author Suzanne Bloom will host a book signing from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. during Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival on Saturday. Bloom will be signing copies of her latest children’s book, “Treasure.” The signing, sponsored by First Edition Bookstore, will be held in the Literary Arts Tent in West Park.
“Treasure,” the second book in the Goose and Bear series, features the two characters introduced by Bloom in “A Splendid Friend, Indeed.” A third book featuring the two characters is currently in the works.
“In ‘Treasure,’ Goose and Bear return, and based on a misunderstanding, they end up going on a wild goose chase,” Bloom said.
While she is at the Colorscape booth, Bloom will be talking about her new book, “A Mighty Fine Time Machine,” and showing some of the sketches she created while compiling the book. “A Mighty Fine Time Machine” is due out this spring. “The book is about three friends and a great, giant cardboard box, that they think they are going to turn into a time machine,” Bloom said.
The three friends are an anteater, an aardvark and an armadillo. To prepare for the book, Bloom said she made appointments at zoos in Jacksonville, Florida and Hershey Park, Pennsylvania to see the animals.
“Colorscape is an opportunity for me to see everybody, catch up with old friend and listen to great music,” Bloom said. The author, who has written and illustrated numerous children’s books, said she is looking forward to the beginning of fall and the work she has ahead of her.
“For me, September is the beginning of the year. I had a wonderful summer weeding, reading and eating, and now I’m all charged up about writing.” Bloom said she is currently working on another Goose and Bear book, but she also has one or two other stories for very young children that she is working on.
