Valley Heights splits opening games

NORWICH – Valley Heights Christian Academy Crusaders opened the season with the Lady Crusaders losing to Oswego Royals, 3-1, and the boys, team winning, 9-3.
The scoring for the girls game had the Royals scoring two first period goals at 11:03 and 5:45. In the second period, the Royals upped the score to 3-0 at 26:38. The Crusaders closed out the scoring at 22:13 with a Becky Lawton goal.
Luke Halberg had four first-half goals for the Crusaders, and Andrew Hunt had a Crusaders goal at 11:00 assisted by Ryan Rose.
Halberg opened the second-period scoring at 24:47 when he put in a short cornerkick by Rose. Hunt scored his second goal at 22:32 assisted by Halberg, and Halberg scored again at 15:32 assisted by Jacob Evans.
Oswego Royals got on the scoreboard with goals at 15:11, 13:33 and 8:57.
Rose closed out the scoring at 2:34 assisted by Halberg.
Next week’s games begin at Cincinnatus on Tuesday, Sept. 16, with girls’ game at 3:30 p.m. and boys at 5 p.m. VHCA returns home Thursday to play Baldwinsville with the girls’ game at 3 p.m and boys at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 the Crusaders travel to Penn Yan.
