Cyclones’ ‘B’ team returns to action with victory
UTICA – Coming off a bye week, the Norwich Cyclones’ “B” team upended North Utica on Sunday, 13-6.
Frank Garcia scored with 1:30 left on the clock before halftime on a 19-yard scamper to paydirt. The Raiders answered on the next play from scrimmage from 60 yards out to tie the game at halftime, 6-6.
Garcia added a seven-yard TD and a point-after TD run in the third for the final margin of victory.
Garcia worked for 126 yards on 15 carries. Tristan Rifanburg and Jon Marvin also toted the pigskin for good yardage.
On defense, Garcia, Rifanburg, and Matt Perella had fumble recoveries. Spencer Stone, Ethan Kelly, Eric Bishop, Landon Cummings, Dakota Nelson, Marvin, and Cameron Edwards held the Raiders in check save the one defensive lapse.
The Cyclones’ D, C, and A teams were in Rome at the same time. The “D” team played another controlled scrimmage, while the “C” team fell to Rome, 19-0.
The Cyclones’ “A” team dominated Rome, 28-0, with the Gold team playing the entire second half.
The Cyclones are at home Sunday with games at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. against powerhouse Vernon-Verona-Sherrill. The “A” game pits two of the best Junior Midget teams at 3 p.m. V-V-S won the New York State Junior Midget State Championship in 2007.
