See Grassanova and North Sea Gas at 6 On The Square this weekend
OXFORD – 6 On The Square (6OTS) is proud to announce a weekend with two great musical groups from near and far. On Friday, it’s the bluegrass quartet, Grassanova, a Southern Tier based group with a dynamic sound all their own. On Sunday, it’s the award-winning trio from Scotland, North Sea Gas, playing an exciting blend of Scottish and Irish folk music.
All you bluegrass fans, you asked for it, now you’ve got it! On Saturday, 7:30 p.m., don’t miss, Grassanova. This group will be playing old familiar bluegrass tunes but in a new way. Members are Tom Quigley, Marie Shaver, R. J. Siegers and Jim MacWilliams; individually they have had years of experience playing bluegrass and other forms of acoustic music. Together they form an exciting, new acoustic sound. Grassanova plays solid traditional bluegrass as well as popular songs done in their bluegrass/”newgrass” style. They’ll even throw in a few other musical styles such as swing, blues, and early jazz just for fun. Purchase tickets on-line at the discounted price of $10, until the day of the show; $12 on the day of the show. Doors open at 6:30.
On Sunday, 7 p.m., the weekend isn’t over until you’ve seen North Sea Gas. 6OTS is happy to be a stop on the first weekend of their month-long North American tour. This talented trio, all the way from Scotland, are Dave Gilfillan, Ronnie MacDonald and Grant Simpson, who play a combination of instruments including guitar, mandolin, bodhran, banjo, whistle, mandola, bouzouki and mouth organ. Complementing this array of instruments are fine vocals, rousing ‘sing alongs’, harmonies and a keen sense of humor… all which guarantee an entertaining evening! North Sea Gas plays traditional tunes with a kick – and they have fun doing it! Purchase tickets on-line at the discounted price of $15, until the day of the show; $18 on the day of the show. Doors open at 6.
You don’t have to decide between these two outstanding shows – come to both! Visit the website at www.6onthesquare.org for ticket and event information.
In October, don’t miss future musical performances by: Red Haired Strangers on Oct.4, Just Throw Money on Oct. 11 and Marjorie Thompson on Oct. 25. All three shows are at 7:30 PM, with doors opening at 6:30 PM.
6OTS is located at 6 LaFayette Park in downtown Oxford. Phone: 843-OTS6 (6876).
