Democrats open county headquarters Wednesday
CHENANGO COUNTY – The Chenango County Democratic Committee will kick off the 2008 campaign season with the grand opening Wednesday of its local headquarters.
At 7 p.m. on Oct. 8, county Democrats will host a grand opening event at their 12 South Broad St. location, next to Ives Cream in downtown Norwich. Democratic candidates running to represent Chenango County will be in attendance. Town of Caroline Supervisor Don Barber, a candidate for State Senate in the 51st District, will be attending the event, and depending on the schedule for the congressional session, Congressman Michael Arcuri may also be in attendance. If Arcuri is unable to attend a representative for the Congressman’s campaign will be present.
“I feel we have a couple of strong candidates, who will do an outstanding job for the constituents of our district,” Democratic Committee Chair Patrick McNeil said.
A volunteer list will be available at the grand opening for anyone interested in volunteering for the fall campaign.
“We’re actively seeking volunteers,” said local Democrat and City of Norwich Supervisor James McNeil. Volunteers generally are involved in making phone calls and working at the headquarters.
The Democratic Headquarters is currently open. The hours of operation are 11 to 2 p.m. and 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 to 2 on Saturday. Anyone interested in volunteering can call 334-2617 and ask for Jim or Pat. Arcuri and Barber lawn signs and bumper stickers are available at the headquarters.
In a press release, the Democratic Chairman said he invites everyone to stop in to meet the candidates and enjoy some refreshments.“ We are a very vibrant committee this year and are very exited about this election. We want more people to be involved in these campaigns and this will be an opportunity for anyone to get involved.”
