Earlville awaits attorney’s recommendation on petition for vote

EARLVILLE – The Village of Earlville has not yet received a recommendation from its attorney as to whether a petition signed by 134 village residents should be accepted.
The petition was submitted on Sept. 25 in order to bring a proposed $3.4 million water project to a public vote. Days after the petition was submitted, an objection letter was filed, citing several procedural and clerical errors in the petition.
The objection letter has been submitted to the village attorney for review. The attorney will give his opinion on whether or not the petition was done correctly, and the village board will act on his opinion to either throw the petition out or to move forward with the public referendum.
Although village officials originally thought they would have received the attorney’s opinion on the matter by Tuesday’s meeting, they are still waiting on his final say. Mayor Toni Campbell said a special meeting will be held to discuss the issue once the lawyer’s opinion has been received.
