Elderly woman crashes car into city home

NORWICH – The Norwich Police and Fire Departments responded to Birdsall Street in the City of Norwich Wednesday after an elderly woman crashed her car into the side of a house.
According to police, the driver, Teresa Bucalo, 81, of Westcott Street, Norwich, was attempting to turn around in a driveway when she mistakenly placed her foot on the gas instead of the brake.
That accident took place at about 1:22 p.m. yesterday.
Bucalo’s Chevy Cavalier lurched forward across the driveway, hitting the residence’s stone foundation at 52 Birdsall St. with enough force to cause the airbags to deploy and the car had to be towed.
No one was injured and no tickets were issued.
