Valley Heights boys and girls finish regular season with three wins apiece

NORWICH - The Valley Heights Christian Academy closed out the regular season with three games in three days last week.  The Lady Crusaders’ won all three games by shutout, while the boys were equally successful in sweeping three contests.

Thursday, the girls blanked Finger Lakes Christian School 5-0 at Weiler Park.  Friday, Oct. 17 they were at Weiler Park again this time defeating Cincinnatus Christian Academy 2-0, and   Saturday they were on the road at Penn Yan where they topped Emmanuel Baptist Academy 3-0.  VHCA’s girls finished third in the ESCAL league with a 8-3-3 record.

The boys’ team began with a win on Thursday over Finger Lakes 14-3, and 8-3 win over Cincinnatus on Friday, and an 8-3 win at Emmanuel Baptist on Saturday to finish 14-0 in the ESCAL. 

In their first-round playoff game on Monday, the Lady Crusaders were in Cortland to play the Cortland Christian Academy Saints.  VHCA advanced to the championship game after winning in a shootout.  In the regulation time, each team scored first,period goals.  Sarah Miedema scored for the Crusaders at 5:08 when she netted the rebound of her first shot, and the  Saints’ score came when Lorissa Miller split the defense catching the goalie out of position at 11:00. 

In the shootout, the Crusaders won 4-2 getting tallies from Becky Lawton, Amanda Evans, Monica Ingraham and Bethany Hinman – two goals in the upper corners and the others high under the crossbar of the goal.
