Fire claims Guilford structure; crews stop it from spreading to nearby home

GUILFORD – Emergency crews responded to a fire call in the Town of Guilford Wednesday night made at around 9 p.m.

The fire destroyed the garage of Robert Ives on County Road 35, but volunteer firefighters from Guilford, Mt. Upton and Oxford were able to keep the flames from spreading to the house only 15 feet from the inferno.

“The garage was a total loss, but the fire was brought under control and the chief concern was damage to the residence. There was virtually no damage done to it. Crews did a good job of containment,” said Chenango County Fire Coordinator Matthew L. Beckwith.
