Earlville Youth leads police on Friday night car chase through city

NORWICH – A car chase with a 17-year-old youth crisscrossed through the greater Norwich area Friday night before the suspect lost control of his vehicle in the City of Norwich and was boxed in by police.

“This incident was brought to a safe end thanks to the cooperation of all the local agencies,” said Detective Sgt. Richard Cobb of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.

The case originated at about 10:30 p.m. Friday in the Town of North Norwich when a sheriff’s patrol attempted to pull over a vehicle for speeding on East River Road.

The 17-year-old was operating the vehicle without a license and fled from deputies, leading them into the City of Norwich where the suspect then left the city limits, only to return again a few minutes later. The Norwich City Police Department and the New York State Troopers aided in the chase, which came to an end on Mitchell street.
