Blarney Stone Pub goes to the dogs for SPCA fundraiser

NORWICH – The Board of Directors of the Chenango County SPCA have gone all out. In less than a week, they have organized a fundraiser for the non-profit complete with live music, food, beverages and T-shirts which are sure to become collectors’ items.
The First Annual Woofstock, billed as “one day of representin’ pooches, cool cats and music,” will take place at the Blarney Stone Pub this Sunday.
From 3 to 7 p.m., guests can enjoy the music and assorted “munchies” provided by the SPCA’s board of directors. All for just a good will donation at the door. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Chenango County SPCA.
“It takes kind-hearted people to keep [the SPCA] going,” said Courtney Sullivan, a 4-year member of the SPCA board and the event’s organizer.
The event is designed to not only raise money for the non-profit, but also to help educate the community on what the organization is all about, said Sullivan.
Sullivan, who owns and operates the Doggie Dude Ranch in Preston, came up with the idea and name for the event. “I wanted to bring the community together to help understand what the SPCA is all about,” she said.
Even putting together the event has been a community effort.
“Everyone is donating their time to this,” said Sullivan. That includes the musicians, bartenders, board members and even the owners of the Blarney Stone Pub. “Sarah and Mike are opening their doors graciously for this.”
Sullivan looked to fellow board member Ann Coe to design the flyer for the event. Her design will also appear on T-shirts sold at the event.
“Ann is so talented,” said Carol Hedlund, the SPCA’s executive director.
Hedlund will serve as one of Woofstock’s guest bartenders on Sunday night. She and the others behind the bar plan on donating their tips for the cause as well.
“I am excited about the event and hope to see all of our supporters there to enjoy the food, drink and music,” she said.
The SPCA executive director applauded the efforts of the those who worked so hard to pull the event together in record time.
“Courtney Sullivan and other members of our Board of Directors have done a fantastic job putting together the 1st annual Woofstock fundraiser for us.” said Hedlund. “They are dedicated to our animals and our community and truly believe in our mission.”
The first annual Woofstock will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16, at the Blarney Stone Pub, 26 South Broad St. in Norwich.
