VESTAL – One game into the 2008-2009 season, Norwich has already matched last season’s victory total.
Junior Elisha Eddy poured in 21 points, while sophomore Hannah Runyon added 10, and Michelle Testani along with Adrienne Sharpe split 16 points evenly in Tuesday’s win.
“We had a lot of people contribute offensively, and I really think our depth wore them down,” said Norwich coach Krista Porter.
Leading by four points at halftime, Eddy scored seven in the third period and Testani five to move the lead to 41-27 entering the fourth quarter. Eddy added a team-high 10 rebounds.
“We went to a halfcourt press in the third quarter, and that worked well,” Porter said.
Norwich hosts Oneonta Friday.

NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley benefited from four forfeits and a pair of pinfall victories to win its home opener against Sidney.
Justin Sigler started the match with a pin at 171 pounds giving the Storm the early lead. Eli Conklin added a win by pin at 140 ounds, and Dustin Badger won a convincing 7-3 decision over the Warriors’ Tyler Oza at 119 pounds. “Badger wrestled very well and never stopped,” said UV coach Jim DuVall.
The Storm wrestler at B-G Thursday and compete in the 46th Annual Clyde Cole Tournament at Oxford on Friday and Saturday.

JOHNSON CITY – Johnson City ended Greene’s 20-match dual winning streak, although the Trojans acquitted themselves well taking five events.
Patrick Kelsey was a four-time winner for Greene winning the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle, while also partipating on two winning relays. Dylan Detweiler and George Flanagan also contributed a pair of wins. “Many of the times we’re swimming right now are close to our best times from last year,” said Greene coach Mike Platta. “Even though the winning streak ended, I couldn’t be happier. We made an excellent showing tonight, and I look forward to a successful season in Class C.”
The Trojans host Cooperstown Thursday.
