Indoor soccer season kicks off
NORWICH – The indoor soccer facility in Norwich is open for practice play, games and tournaments under new management, the Chenango Soccer Club.
The club signed a lease in November on the building owned by Chenango Housing Improvement Services.
The indoor field is open every Friday evening for play, with youths scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. and teens/adults from 6 to 8 p.m.
League sign-ups are going on now and players (and teams) are encouraged to call Chenango Soccer Club member, facility manager and coach Dee Osterhout at 336-6948 to participate. The games are five versus five, with four players and a keeper per team. All teams are co-ed.
Osterhout said he was organizing a youth league, teen league and an adult league as well as monthly tournaments.
“If you don’t have your own team, then we’ll be happy to put you on a house team,” he said.
The first league game for adults and teens teams is planned for Sunday, Dec. 7. There will be eight games. First place in each age division will receive individual trophies. League fees include eight, one-hour practices.
In addition, dodge ball games will be offered on Saturdays. Game times are 12 to 1 p.m for youths under 12; 1 to 2 p.m. for teens; and 2 to 3 p.m. for adults.
The indoor soccer center is located at 27 W. Main St. behind the Chenango County Council of the Arts. Parking is available on Maple Street and in the public parking lot behind Nina’s Pizzeria.
