Fong back in court

OXFORD – Steven W. Fong, 56, will appear again in the Town of Oxford court today.
A source close to the case has stated that at least one new charge may be brought against Fong at the proceeding, which will take place at 3 p.m. before Oxford Town Justice John Weidman.
The Brooklyn man has already been charged with 115 misdemeanors in relation to the seizure of 76 Pomeranians and the remains of 38 additional dogs from an Oxford property in October. The animals had been kept in a double wide trailer owned by Fong, under conditions described by Chenango County SPCA Executive Director Carol Hedlund as “horrific.”
Fong could face up to one year in prison for each of the 76 counts of failure to provide for an impounded animal, 38 counts of animal cruelty and once count of false impersonation.
Fong forfeited ownership of the dogs to the SPCA last month after he failed to post a $65,465 cash bond to cover the cost of caring for the animals.
