AFTON – Greene’s offense was in high gear over the first two periods behind the hot shooting of junior Scott Gorton.
Gorton had 18 of his 27 points by halftime sparking a 43-25 advantage. “We got a lot of steals in the first half and forced them into 17 turnovers,” said Greene coach Jeff Paske.
Afton was as close as nine points early in the third quarter. Booker Davis turned the tide back in the Trojans’ favor with two baskets, and Gorton added two more three balls.
Dan Carlin led Greene (3-0) with eight assists, Dustin Turner blocked nine shots to go with 13 points, and Mark McDermott pulled down 12 rebounds.
Adam Rupakus led Afton with 18 points, and Michael Muller added 14.
Greene hosts Oxford Friday at 8:45 p.m.

OXFORD – Sidney caught fire in the middle two quarters to open a 14-point lead and win at Oxford Tuesday.
Jeremy Nelson’s three-point play late in the first quarter put Oxford in front, 13-10. Sidney embarked on a 15-5 second quarter, and extended the lead to 40-26 after three periods.
Mike Guerriere hit three three-pointers in the third, and Dylan Umbra canned a trifecta at the third-quarter horn.
Oxford rallied in the fourth closing the gap to 48-45 in the final minute before Sidney sealed the game from the foul line.
Alex Champlin had 10 points in the fourth quarter to finish with 22 points and a team-best 15 rebounds. Tom Gould scored 14 points and grabbed nine boards. “We were just in an offensive funk most of the game, and we didn’t execute well,” said Oxford coach Tim Davis. “Sidney was on fire in the second and third quarters.”

BAINBRIDGE – Walton distributed its scoring up and down the lineup, and outscored B-G 28-5 in the second quarter to create a 41-9 bulge.
Chad Gardepe led the Warriors with 13 points, and Steve Kaminsky added 11. Seven other Walton players had at least four points.
“We didn’t do too badly in the first quarter,” said B-G coach Ben Nelson. “They have a pretty balanced team, and they wore us down with the press.”
B-G finished with 35 turnovers, seven more than its total points. Ryan Porter scored 10 to lead B-G.

COPES CORNERS – G-MU made just three field goals in the first half shooting 3-for-21, to fall behind by double digits to Edmeston Tuesday.
Blake Vibbard scored 16 points and Jake Baulch 13 for Edmeston. “We were incredibly tentative against their zone,” said G-MU coach Bill Hartman. “They also killed us on the boards.”
G-MU stepped up the offense in the second half, but did not mount a serious threat to Edmeston’s 19-point halftime lead.
Cody Hall finished with 15 points, and Tyler Wildfeir had nine of his 11 in the second half.

AFTON – Greene guard Liz Wentlent filled up the stat sheet, and teammates Megan McDermott and Barb Borst racked up the points in a win at Afton Tuesday.
McDermott scored a career-high 28 points on 13-for-19 shooting, and Borst added 16 points. Wentlent led the team with 10 assists, seven rebounds, and four steals. “We were outstanding in the first half, especially the second quarter,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “Wentlent broke things down for us.”
Afton junior Jessica Winans was limited to two points in the first half, but came on strong in the fourth quarter tallying 12 of her 21 points to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for her career.

EDMESTON – Edmeston slowly stretched its lead out over the first three periods to remain unbeaten on the season.
Emily Bliss hit a three-pointer and scored seven of her nine points in the second quarter to push the Edmeston lead to 19-11 at halftime.
“We weren’t able to knock a hole in their lead in the second half,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “Missing a lot of foul shots hurt. We missed the front end of four one-and-ones.”
Tonya Barnes scored 17 points for G-MU, who host Morris Friday.
Emily Slentz scored 10 for Edmeston.

COOPERSTOWN – Sherburne-Earlville made the switch from man-to-man defense to zone, and shut down the Cooperstown offense in Tuesday’s win.
Bridget Irwin had 13 points and 11 rebounds for S-E, who snapped a two-game winning streak. Irwin scored 11 in the first half guiding S-E (2-2) to an 11-point lead. “The zone was effective for us, and they weren’t able to make many outside shots,” said Marauders coach Karen Mulligan. “They didn’t have much of an inside presence either.”
Kristi Irwin and Karli Harris canned three balls in the third quarter helping the Marauders extend the lead to 17 points.
