Greene 68, Trumansburg 34
GREENE – Greene dominated the end of the first half and the early stages of the third stanza to roll past Trumansburg in its holiday tournament opener.
Scott Gorton scored eight points over the final 2 1/2 minutes of the first half – six coming on three-pointers – and Gorton teamed up with Dustin Turner on a 16-5 run to start the third quarter splitting 10 points evenly. “We got hot late in the first half, and it carried over to the second half,” said Greene coach Jeff Paske. “It was good to see us diving on the floor for loose balls, and we took three charges. We did all the little things well.”
Trumansburg struggled from the field against the Trojans’ pressure defense shooting 14-for-53 (26 percent) overall. Gorton grabbed nine rebounds to go with his 18 points, Turner had 17 points, eight caroms, and four blocks, and Brendan Kinne came off the bench to score nine points. “I thought this game would be much closer, but I’ll take this any day,” Paske said.

In the second contest, Oneonta jumped out to 36-11 halftime lead over the host Storm. Nate Eastman and Phil Wright scored 10 apiece for the Yellowjackets.

Chenango Valley 76, Oxford 75
CORTLAND – Oxford had few defensive answers against Chenango Valley, especially in the first quarter, to fall by one point in the first round of the Cortland Holiday Classic Monday.
Andy Fox hit for 10 points in a 28-point opening stanza, Kyle Christoffersen nailed three trifectas, and Tom Hull along with Kyle Bakker also drained three balls for the nine-point lead. “They were shooting lights out in the first quarter, and it didn’t matter what we did on defense,” said Oxford coach Tim Davis. “We turned it over too many times and had trouble with their pressure. It wasn’t one thing that hurt us in this game, it was the little things.”
Oxford nearly made up a six-point deficit over the final 12 seconds. Tom Gould nailed a three with 12 seconds remaining cutting a 76-70 lead in half, and after a CV turnover, Gould putback Cory Seiler’s missed three attempt with two seconds left leaving Oxford a point short.
Seiler led Oxford with 21 points, while Gould and Alex Champlin added 19 points apiece. Oxford meets Dryden tonight at 5:30 p.m.
