GREENE – Oxford went on a 14-0 run in the second quarter to grab a double-digit lead and beat the Trojans on Friday.
Alex Champlin and Tom Gould combined for 15 of the Blackhawks’ 21 points in the second stanza in creating a 36-19 lead. “They executed well on offense, and defensively we gave up too many easy shots,” said Greene coach Jeff Paske.
Greene started the third quarter strong closing the gap to 40-33. The Blackhawks (5-3) regained control finishing the quarter with six straight points.
Champlin led with 20 points, Brett Trask had a season-high 14 points, and Gould 12.
Dan Carlin and Booker Davis had 14 points apiece for Greene (5-3).
The Trojans hung tight with Seton Catholic Central through most of the first half.
The Saints’ Matt Meier hit a three-pointer at the end of the first quarter to open a 24-16 lead. Seton maintained a 31-27 lead late in the half, but closed on a 15-3 spurt, again capped by a Meier three ball.
The Saints were absolutely perfect in the third quarter scoring 29 points on 12-for-12 shooting – three of those hoops were three-pointers. “They did a good job in transition and we didn’t get back well on defense,” Paske said.
Greene hosts Deposit Tuesday.

HAMILTON – Sherburne-Earlville went into a scoreless drought the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, and the Emerald Knights connected on four three balls in the last stanza to pull away for the victory Saturday.
Derek Cenicola had two of his four three-pointers in the last quarter on his way to a game-high 18 points. Hamilton finished with 10 three balls out of 19 total field goals.
“They have a very senior-oriented team that worked the clock on offense,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “We played pretty good defense, but it seemed like they hit three or for shot-clock buzzer beaters. You’re also not going to win many games scoring 33 points.”
Cody Schraft scored 13 points and Ryan Collins had 10 for S-E, who host Westmoreland Tuesday.

GREENE – Playing the third of four games this week, Greene showed no let up nthe first half and rolled past Oxford on Friday.
Megan McDermott had 16 points, Barb Borst 11, and Megan Kinne grabbed a team-high nine boards for the unbeaten Trojans.
Oxford was held under 10 points offensively until the final two minutes of the half, and trailed 31-13 at halftime.
"Our defense in the first half was amazing," said Greene coach Dave Gorton. "We helped, we boxed out, and we didn't give up second-chance points. I was really pleased with the intensity, especially coming off the emotion of Tuesday (a win over Union-Endicott)."
Oxford sophomore Haley Witchella scored a team-high 11 points.
