Oxford 65, Afton 34
AFTON – Oxford is cleaning up in MAC’s Division II, and looks like a prohibitive favorite to repeat as division champions after Monday’s shellacking of the Crimson Knights.
Locked in a close game early, Afton starting guard Casey Mohrein went down with an injury three minutes into the contest, and did not return. After which, Oxford turned up the defensive pressure to build a 20-6 lead.
Alex Champlin had 10 points in the first quarter, 18 by halftime, and a game-high 23 points. Tom Gould was next with 13 points, and Cory Seiler added 12. “We wanted to come out and play well from the start, and we were able to do that,” said Oxford coach Tim Davis. “We want to maintain a high caliber play, no matter who we’re facing.”

Otselic Valley 78, Madison 31
SOUTH OTSELIC – Otselic Valley had the gas on full throttle from the start, and scored 53 points in the middle two quarters to whitewash Madison Monday night.
OV had little trouble putting the ball in the basket, nor did the visitors offer much of a threat to the Vikes’ defense. After three quarters, the Vikings raised their prodigious lead to 68-21.
“We were really flat Saturday at Morrisville, and I was hoping we would come back tonight with the intensity and sharpness we needed,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “It was nice to see us have a little more focus with our play. We have not put a lot of points on the board this season, but tonight we worked harder for our shots, we were more patient, and we took better shots.”
David Cerasani saw little more than half a game of action, but still led the winners with 16 points and nine assists. Brad Wentworth also scored 16 points, while Jamin Selan and Justin Shapley pulled down eight rebounds apiece.

Borst led Greene with 20 points and McDermott followed with 13. Wentlent and Andrea Day came up big on defense as each drew two charges. “When our team is pressured, they remain poised,” Gorton said. “They have been determined to turn games around with defense.
